“Art is my weapon to move at least something small.“

Claude Stahel, born in 1966, lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland.

His career has been shaped by analogue black and white photography, taught by non other than Fred Waldvogel.

During the lockdown, Stahel discovered working within the three dimensional space.

Firewood

“Where is the sense in non-combustible firewood?”

Objets Trouvé

“Heavy, massive, silent, absolutely useless images of things that are defined only by their utility. As if to push the absurdity even further, but of course simply following his deformation professional, Stahel still photographed these memorials of restless inactivity.”

Dark Cloud Of Drones

“Shaped into spheres with no eyes, the dictators float as a counterweight with ease alongside their deadly drones.”

TV Potemkin

“The work flickers in the eyes of its viewers and absorbs their self-determination, because the viewer has no possibility to change the program.
They have to watch what is being projected or turn away.”

Ektalure.x

“In the darkroom, he printed these negatives on silver gelatin paper, which creates a unique look that is playful and almost trashy, highlighting Stahel’s conception of an experimental adult playground.”

Red Line

“Olav Scholz: We shall not cross the red line, after refusing to deliver tanks to Ukraine in December 2022.

Therefore I constructed this machine with the sole purpose of crossing the redline over and over.”

Warheads

“The aggressor Putin hits Biden, who hits Erdogan, which in turn hits the butcher Kadyrov and therefore hitting Zelensky.”

Gold and Dynamite

“About dictators, human rights, gold and abuse of power.”
